Grover "Red" Hite

Grover “Red” Hite, 92 of Bloomington died Thursday March 23, 2017 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

There will be a graveside service for Red on Thursday March 30, 2017 at 11 AM at Park Hill Cemetery in Bloomington. Military rites will be performed by Bloomington – Normal American Legion Honor Guard.

Beck Memorial Home in Bloomington is handling arrangements.

Red was born April 23, 1924 in Salem, IL to Martin and Georgia Jones Hite. He married Hazel M. Popendick on June 15, 1950 in Bloomington. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

He is survived by two daughters, Loretta (John) Campbell of Morton and Connie (Gary) Miller of Bloomington. Seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren also survive.

Red was a heavy equipment operator and had his own excavating business for many years. He was a member of the United States Coast Guard during World War II. Red was and inventor and tinkerer and could build or fix anything. He loved woodworking and fixing anything mechanical. He was a very generous man with his time and finances and was always willing to help anyone in need. He will be missed by all who knew him.
